Gouache and the Landscape
Discover the versatility and beauty of gouache in this introductory landscape painting course! Students will explore fundamental painting techniques while creating landscapes inspired by subjects of their own choosing.
Each week, students will be guided through the creative process, learning new techniques and approaches to produce vibrant, dynamic compositions. Through hands-on exercises and a structured fundamentals grid, participants will explore two new gouache techniques each session, building confidence and developing their artistic skills.
Throughout the course, students will learn how to:
● Apply gouache using both wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques.
● Develop brushwork skills, including flat washes and dry-brush techniques.
● Explore the unique properties of gouache, including its ability to layer light colors over dark, setting it apart from traditional watercolor.
● Apply color theory and fading techniques to create shadows, depth, and atmosphere in landscape paintings.
By the end of the course, students will bring these techniques together to create a finished landscape painting that reflects their individual creativity and artistic growth.
No prior drawing or painting experience is necessary. This course welcomes artists of all skill levels, from complete beginners to those looking to expand their creative abilities.
