Shibori Basics

Discover the art of Shibori, a traditional Japanese resist dyeing method for textiles. Explore a variety of traditional techniques to create beautiful, custom dyed pieces. Learn to fold, twist, bind, and stitch fabric to resist the dye and form intricate patterns. Each class will focus on a different Shibori method, guiding you through the process of creating your own unique designs.
Experiment with Arashi, wrapping the fabric around a pole to create flowing striped designs. Create geometric patterns with Itajime folding techniques or circular designs with various Kumo & Ne Maki Shibori methods. Using stitching techniques, you’ll discover where hand-sewn areas guide the flow of dye to create stunning patterns. Each piece becomes a fun surprise as you unfold it to reveal the beautiful mystery of the dye's journey! Participants will be provided with a variety of dyeables.
