Flowing Ink: Japanese books and Suminagashi

Explore the art of Suminagashi, the Japanese technique of marbling. Using the natural flow of water, this graceful method involves gently floating inks on the surface of water using brushes to create beautiful fluid designs on paper. Explore the fundamentals of this elegant technique while experimenting with a variety of inks and papers to develop your own unique marbled patterns.
Next, we will sew traditional four hole Japanese book bindings and variations of these bindings along with a Japanese style accordion fold book. Using your own marbled papers, you'll create custom, hand-bound books that are both functional and artistic. All levels/Adults & Teens 16+
All materials will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own decorative papers, any tools or a self-healing cutting mat.
